Melissa Sgroi, Ed.D.
Dr. Melissa Sgroi's background is in both television and print journalism. She has worked as an anchor, reporter, and assignment editor, and her feature writing has appeared in national and international publications. Her research interest is disability and media education. Several of her students have had their articles published in national magazines when they were journalism undergraduates, and many of her journalism students have won regional and national awards for their work. Dr. Sgroi previously taught at King's College in Wilkes-Barre. She holds bachelor's degrees from King's College, and her Master's and Doctorate from Wilkes University.
Dan Kimbrough, MA
Dan Kimbrough is an experienced videographer and producer. He particularly enjoys teaching Final Cut Pro, the gold standard for editing in the video industry today. Kimbrough has won many awards for his work, including a recent Videographers Award of Distinction for the program he shot and edited - with editing assistance from two COM seniors - in the spring of 2009 when Dan accompanied MU Campus Ministry's spring break trip to Slidell, Louisiana, and video taped students rebuilding houses in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Kimbrough also has own production company. Kimbrough received his Master's degree in Electronic Broadcast Management from Central Michigan University.
James May serves as a staff photographer for the Bloomsburg Press Enterprise and has worked as a contract photographer for the Associated Press. His work has been published in Sports Illustrated, The Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, and the San Fransisco Chronicle, and it has been nationally and regionally recognized by The Associated Press Managing Editor, MSNBC.com and the Keystone Press Awards. He has an Associate's Degree in photography from Luzerne County Community College and a BA in humanities from Thomas Edison State College in New Jersey.
Doug Martin began is own design firm, Turtleboy Productions, in spring of 2007 after receiving his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Kutztown University. He has over 13 years of experience in the graphic design field developing profitable and unique communications strategies that deliver tangible results. Doug particularly enjoys sharing his knowledge of the graphic design world with his students and bringing real-world examples to class everyday. With local and national clients, Doug needs to stay on top of the current trends in graphic design. Students are sure to learn advertising skills of today - and tomorrow.
Susan Turcmanovich has more than 15 years of experience in the communications industry, including work as a video coordinator and production assistant for WNEP_TV in Moosic, Pa., and as an account coordinator in the community relations department at Gallagher & Gallagher, an advertising and public relations agency. in her professional role, she provides senior level communications counsel and develops, coordinates,implements, and manges external communications actives to support Pennsylvania American Water's business plan and operating objectives. She revived a B.A. in communications from LaSalle University in Philadelphia, Pa., and an M.A. in communication arts from Marywood University in Scranton, Pa.
