The Insalaco Center for Career Development has a proven record of providing the resources and assistance necessary to turn academic achievement into career opportunity.

Program Description: Misericordia University's graduate nursing program leads to a Master of Science in Nursing degree and prepares graduates for the advanced practice role. All students select a clinical specialization as the focus of their study; students may also select a functional sub-specialization.

Graduate nursing core courses provide support for the clinical and functional roles and focus on such areas as: research; policy, organization and financing of health care; ethics; professional role development; theoretical foundations of nursing practice; and human diversity and social issues. The advanced practice nursing courses build on the graduate nursing core courses and provide students with the opportunity to gain skills in advanced assessment, decision-making, and clinical management. Advanced practice clinical courses incorporate the changing trends in health care that require advanced skills and role development. Advanced practice clinical management courses provide for precepted clinical experience, which concentrates on health restoration, health maintenance and health promotion. The functional area courses in education prepare nurse educators for client education, staff development, continuing education, and for beginning teaching positions in nursing programs. Likewise, functional courses in administration prepare graduates for mid-level positions in management, administration, and consultation.

The curriculum incorporates recommendations, as appropriate, from the American Association of College's of Nursing's Essentials of Master's Education for Advanced Practice Nursing, ANA's Standards and Scope of Nursing Practice; Healthy People 2010;the American Academy of Nurse Practitoners Standards and Scope of Practice and the National Organization of Nurse Practitioners Faculty Curriculum Guidelines.

Students attend classes on Thursdays only in a part-time sequencing.

Admissions Information: In addition to the general admission requirements for Graduate Programs, specific criteria for admission by the Graduate Nursing Program must be met.

  • For Full Admission to the Graduate Nursing Program - Requirements include:
    • Undergraduate GPA between 2.50 and 2.99
    • Miller Analogy Test (MAT) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE) Score in at least the 35th percentile (25th percentile or higher if the undergraduate GPA was 3.00 or higher)
  • For Provisional Admission to the Graduate Nursing Program - Students admitted in this category are required to complete 12 graduate credits at Misericordia University in required courses, with grades no lower than B before being granted full and unconditional admission to the graduate nursing program.
