The study of history fosters an understanding of the complexity of human motivation and action and provides a critical approach to looking at the past. Inside and outside of the classroom, the History program at Misericordia University provides students with opportunities to make viable connections to the past and to develop a greater awareness of local, national, and international issues. History majors also develop important and valuable skills-- organization, writing, research, critical thinking, public speaking, cultural understanding, and perspective ("the big picture"). Students are also encouraged to pursue internships. Previous placements for internships have included the Eckley Miners' Village, local law firms, and the Wyoming Valley Historical Society.
