- BUSINESS
- Graduate Adjunct Faculty Pool - Business - Misericordia University in Dallas, PA invites applications for a pool of part-time instructors for two graduate business programs: MBA and MS in Organizational Management. Some openings may be available as early as Fall 2009. The candidates must hold a doctorate from a regionally accredited institution; candidates with ABD status will be given consideration. Special consideration will be given to candidates interested in the design and teaching of on-line and other non-traditional formats. - Professional Specialist Faculty - The Misericordia University Department of Business is seeking a MBA/CPA qualified person to teach accounting and selected finance courses. The qualified candidate also will have the opportunity to teach graduate level accounting and/or finance in the University’s new MBA program. This is a full time, non-tenure track Professional Specialist appointment. Candidates must have completed MBA studies at an accredited institution and also have proof of having attained the CPA or some other comparable certification related to accounting. Business experience will be considered a plus. - Professional Specialist Track Faculty - The Misericordia University Department of Communications is seeking applications for a full time non- tenure track professional specialist, graphic design instructor beginning August, 2010. The candidate will teach studio courses in graphic design, Web design, advertising design and related computer applications, including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, and digital video formatting software. Responsibilities include student advising, curriculum development, and creative work in graphic design and/or online media. Candidates must have a minimum of three years of professional experience and a minimum of two years teaching experience in higher education with a clear demonstration of teaching effectiveness. Evidence of excellence in professional graphic design is required. Web development experience is a plus. MFA preferred. - Assistant Professor - Misericordia University’s English Department seeks to hire a tenure-track, assistant professor of English with a Ph.D. in 19th century British literature completed before 15 August 2010. Preference will be given to candidates with a secondary specialty in writing, as the University is currently revising its Core Curriculum, including its writing requirements. In addition to upper-level courses for the English major, the successful candidate must demonstrate strength in teaching writing and survey courses. - FINE ART
- Assistant Professor - Misericordia University invites applicants to apply for a full-time, non tenure-track position in its Department of Fine Arts beginning in the 2010 - 2011 academic year. This search is open to individuals possessing a PhD. in Art History or a terminal degree in a related field. Primary responsibilities of this position include teaching undergraduate courses in cultural history and overseeing the development and operation of classes in studio art. Strong candidates will have the ability to contribute to a discussion of curriculum development in the visual arts at Misericordia University and demonstrate experience in painting, sculpture, or some other visual art. Evidence of successful teaching, preferably at the university level, is required. - HISTORY
- Assistant Professor - Misericordia University invites applications for a tenure-track position as assistant professor in American history starting fall 2010. Ph.D. in history by June 2010 required; college teaching experience is strongly preferred. Candidates must be able to teach public history courses, as well as willing to supervise internships. Ability to teach a World history survey sequence and /or a non-western upper-level history class enhances an application. The search committee would prefer someone able to teach a gender or women's history course. - Pro Rata Faculty Position - The Nursing Department at Misericordia University is currently seeking candidates for a Pro-rata faculty position with expertise in the use of Sim Man scenarios for the 2009-2010 academic year. This job will require knowledge of providing scenarios and assessing the students’ ability to respond to those scenarios in the learning lab. Qualified applicants for this simulation faculty position must hold a baccalaureate degree in nursing with a master’s degree in nursing preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in baccalaureate teaching and an interest in simulation. All applicants must hold a current PA nursing license or be eligible for PA licensure. - Assistant Professor - Misericordia University invites qualified candidates to apply for a new (10 month) non tenure-track teaching faculty position in Physics to begin August 2010. The three person department primarily teaches introductory physics courses to students in a variety of majors. Misericordia University is part of a local consortium of colleges and universities that will be offering upper level physics courses to students in the Wilkes-Barre area. A Doctorate in Physics, Physics Education, or a related field is required. Candidates at ABD status with evidence of expected completion by 8/15/10 will be considered. - SOCIAL WORK
- Department Chair - The Social Work Program invites applications for a full-time, ten month, tenure track position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor, beginning August 2010. Responsibilities for this position include: Chairing an established BSW Program located within the College of Professional Studies and Social Sciences, teaching in the Policy and Research sequence, scholarship, providing academic advisement, and contributing services to the program, college, university and surrounding community. The position requires an MSW from a CSWE accredited program, 3 years post-masters social work practice experience, a minimum of three years teaching experience in a CSWE accredited Social Work Program, an earned doctorate in Social Work or a related discipline (ABD with doctoral completion within one year of hire will be considered), experience or familiarity with current Council on Social Work Education Accreditation Standards, and proven leadership skills, including the ability to supervise, develop budgets and provide administrative leadership. Experience in conducting needs assessments for or in developing graduate programs in social service areas is highly desirable. The University’s firmly established Social Work Program evolved from the Religious Sisters of Mercy’s own call to compassionate service through the ministries of teaching and healing. Initially accredited by the Council on Social Work Education in 1975, accredited status has been reaffirmed four times with current accreditation through February, 2012. - TEACHER EDUCATION
- Department Chair - Misericordia University’s Teacher Education Department (TED) is committed to the Mercy values of mercy, justice, service and hospitality. The usual term of office for the TED chairperson is three years, with renewal for additional three-year terms based upon 360-degree evaluation. The Teacher Education Department offers programs in several areas of Secondary Education, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Middle School Education, and Special Education, some of which are at the graduate level. Our search is open to candidates who have the credentials and experience necessary to lead a department, who demonstrate strong potential in the area of scholarship, are committed to service learning and strengthening partnerships with local school districts, and possess an expertise in the area of curriculum development. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise related to reading and/or middle school education. Duties of the department chair include, but are not limited to, administering the budgeting process, preparing the schedule of classes, making catalog revisions, hiring and retaining full-time and adjunct faculty, overseeing textbook ordering, scheduling department meetings, inputting and monitoring Title II data, and preparing annual reports. The TED department chair is a full-time, twelve-month, tenure-track faculty position with requirements to teach twelve credits per year and to advise education majors. The selected candidate must hold a doctoral degree and will be required to have substantial experience that indicates the ability to effectively lead a Department at the higher education level that prepares students for elementary, middle school and secondary teaching, and that offers graduate programs for practicing educators. The successful candidate should also be familiar with the new Pennsylvania Certification Regulations (Chapter 49-2) and NCATE. The person selected, should he or she not continue as department chair at the end of a three-year term, would continue as a tenure track nine and one-half month faculty member assuming a full teaching load (twelve credits per semester) within the department and be expected to meet the requirements of a faculty member set forth in the Faculty Handbook. The contract salary for a person moving from a twelve-month position to a nine and one-half month position is pro-rated accordingly.
