Financial Aid

The Application Process - All students who wish to be considered for financial assistance must apply for admission to the University at www.misericordia.edu/apply

Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) - All students, regardless of their state of legal residence, must submit a "Free Application for Federal Student Aid." The University uses the information collected on this application to determine eligibility for all Federal and Institutional aid and loan programs. www.fafsa.gov

General Eligibility - Undergraduate Student - To be eligible for financial aid consideration you must:

demonstate financial need as determined by the FAFSA,
be a U.S. Citizen or eligible non-citizen with a valid Social Security Number,
be enrolled at least half-time in a degree or certificate program at the University. Full-time enrollment is a minimum of 12 credits per term. Half-time enrollment is a minimum of 6 undergraduate credits per term,
be registered with the Selective Service, if you are a male 18 to 25 years of age, ( www.sss.gov to register)
not owe a refund on a federal grant or be in default on any federal educational loan,
be making satisfactory academic progress toward your degree,
show you're qualified to obtain a postsecondary education.

After your FAFSA is processed you will receive an email instructing you to review your Student Aid Report and make corrections should it contain any errors. If you are transferring into Misericordia and have already filed a FAFSA for the current year you may call FAFSA at 1-800-433-3243 and add our school code 003247 to your FAFSA which will allow the federal processors to forward to us your FAFSA information.

Charlotte W. Newcombe Foundation - Misericordia has received grant funding for scholarships for mature women through the Charlotte W. Newcombe Foundation. Ask your Adult Education advisor if you may be eligible.

Federal Pell Grant - This federal program provides grants depending on financial need and educational costs. Students who have not yet completed their first undergraduate degree may apply. Application is made by completing the "Free Application for Federal Student Aid."(FAFSA) All students who seek financial aid from Misericordia University are considered for this grant by filing the FAFSA. (www.fafsa.ed.gov)

Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency Grant (PHEAA) - This program allows PA. residents to obtain financial assistance for undergraduate study. Eligibility and grant amounts are determined by PHEAA. Students apply directly for this grant by completing a FAFSA. The deadline for application is May 1 prior to the start of the academic year for which the aid is requested. PHEAA notifies students of their grant eligibility by email afterwhich the student must go to www.pheaa.org and respond to the PHEAA state grant inquiry.

Other State Grants - Some states provide grants to their residents which can be used at colleges in other states including PA. These include Ohio, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts, West Virginia, Delaware, Washington D.C., and Vermont. Prospective students should contact their high school guidance office or their state highter education office to learn more about their state programs and to obtain applications.

Payment Plan Options

Tuition Reimbursement: Your employer may have a tuition reimbursement program already in effect. Check with your company's human resource office for details.

Credit Card payment: You may pay for tuition by credit card (MasterCard, Visa or Discover)

Check or Cash: You may pay for tuition in full prior to the start of classes.

Deferred payment plan: Under deferred payment, you pay tuition in installments, with full payment due by the end of class. Twenty percent (20%) of the tuition is due at registration and there is a one percent (1%) charge on the unpaid balance each month.
