POST MASTER’S FAMILY NURSE PRACTITIONER CERTIFICATE

The Post-Master's Certificate Option provides the opportunity for nurses who already have an earned master's degree in nursing, in another clinical specialization, to complete requirements to qualify for certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner. The certificate program consists of a minimum of 24 credits from the advanced practice nursing core and the clinical specialization area. Additional credits in pathophysiology, pharmacology, and health assessment and role developement may be required based on evaluation of previous university and professional experiences. Post-master's certificate program students complete a minimum of 630 hours of directed clinical practice in primary care under the supervision of qualified clinicians.

Program Description: The certificate program consists of a minimum of 24 credits from the Family Nurse Practitioner clinical specialization. Additional credits in pathophysiology, pharmacology, and health assessment and role development may be required based on evaluation of previous university transcripts and professional experiences. Post-master's certificate program students complete a minimum of 630 hours of directed clinical practice in primary care under the supervision of qualified clinicians. The program can be completed in the part-time evening study option.

Admissions Information: Applicants to the Post-Master's Certificate Program must:

    Hold a masters' degree in nursing with specialization in another area Meet all general admission requirements to the College's Graduate Programs

Program Sequence: The sequence below reflects a 24-credit program plan. Post-Master's Certificate students who have not previously completed graduate level courses in pathophysiology (3 credits), advanced pharmacology (3 credits), and physical examination and role development (3 credits) must add these courses to the program sequence.
