Misericordia officially began construction of the contemporary Monsignor Andrew J. McGowan Student Residence Hall during a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, July 9, 2007. The $5.2 million residential structure was completed in March of 2008 and officially dedicated on August 22.

After a brief speech highlighting the project details, ceremonials shovels were used to break ground on the McGowan Hall construction site.

The outer framework of McGowan Hall was completed at the end of December 2007.
Students began moving into McGowan on 3-14-08
Students began moving into McGowan on 3-14-08. Today, the hall is home to 116 full-time students.
Dedication ceremony was held on 8-22-08
The building bears the name Monsignor McGowan, a beloved Misericordia Trustee and Trustee Emeritus who provided leadership, dedication and humor throughout more than 25 years of valuable service to the campus. Monsignor embodied the spirit of the Religious Sisters of Mercy, the founders and sponsors of Misericordia, and their tenets of mercy, service, justice and hospitality.
McGowan Hall
The four-story, 27,650-square foot building is located in the center of campus and helps form the campus quad, bordered by the Banks Student Life Center, the Mary Kintz Bevevino Library and the new Sandy and Marlene Insalaco Hall.
