Misericordia Players presenting 'A Murder is Announced'

The play is being presented Nov. 15-17.
Misericordia University’s theatrical troupe, The Misericordia Players, will present three performances of Agatha Christie’s murder mystery, “A Murder is Announced,” Nov. 15-17 in Lemmond Theater in Walsh Hall. The performances begin at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at the door for $5 for adults and $3 for senior citizens and students.

Based on the 1950 crime novel of the same name, Christie’s play is set in a rural English town where an invitation to a murder is announced in the newspaper. The curious villagers who attend the event become witnesses. The story follows amateur detective Miss Jane Marple through an investigation of the unlikely suspects in the unusual murder.

The play is being directed by Theater Manager Don Hopkins of Dallas, Pa., who will be assisted by Coordinator of Student Activities Patrick McKamy of Wyoming, Pa., as technical director, with the help of graduate assistant Jeff Kelly of Dallas, Pa.; students Mikayla Gillette of Hawley, Pa., as stage manager; and Matthew Cebrosky of Lehighton, Pa., as assistant stage manager. Audrey Ide of Dallas, Pa., is the costumer for the show.

The cast includes Misericordia University students Yalixssa Delgado, Hopatcong, N.J., as Letitia Blacklock; Julia Whitesell, Harveys Lake, Pa., as Doris Bunner; Dinamichele Boyer, Allentown, Pa., as Miss Marple; Meghan DiGerolamo, Budd Lake, N.J., as Julia Simmons; Maria Weidermoyer, Perkiomenville, Pa., as Phillipa Haymes; Jasmine Mae Busi, Saylorsburg, Pa., as Mitzi; Melvin Jay B. Busi, Saylorsburg, Pa., as Inspector Craddock; Jamie Opela, Binghamton, N.Y., as Mrs. Swettenham; Kent Corey, Uniondale, Pa., as Patrick, and Brian Quinlan, Kutztown, Pa., as Edmund.

The Misericordia Players present one production each semester – from classical theater to contemporary. This year they will present a mystery in the fall and a musical in the spring with workshop plays in the winter to help develop student skills. Students are involved firsthand in all areas of production, including acting, set design and construction, directing, lighting, choreography, publicity, and more. The troupe also performs storybook theater around the area and helps with various service organizations on campus by performing skits on timely topics, such as drug abuse.
