Sonography Program receives maximum 10-year accreditation|
The Diagnostic Medical Sonography Certificate Program at Misericordia University recently had its continuing accreditation extended for a maximum of 10 years to 2023 by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education (CAAHEP).
The Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS) and CAAHEP’s most recent peer review recognized the Misericordia University program’s “substantial compliance with the nationally established accreditation standards.’’
“The 10-year accreditation award validates the curriculum of our program and the hard work our faculty members are doing to prepare clinically proficient graduates for the health care industry,’’ said Sheryl E. Goss, M.S., R.T., R.D.M.S., R.D.C.S., R.V.T., chair. “It is important as technology improves and advances that we, as educators and clinicians, are able to adapt and teach future medical sonographers how to properly use that technology.’’
CAAHEP is the largest programmatic accreditor in the health sciences field. In its collaboration with its committees on accreditation, CAAHEP reviews and accredits nearly 2,000 educational programs in 19 health science occupations. Every sonography program is also required to file an annual report to the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography as part of accreditation.
Misericordia University offers an 18-month certificate program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, more commonly known as ultrasound. The certificate program is designed for adult or non-traditional learners. It offers convenient and predictable scheduling with alternating weekend classes and a weekday clinical education component. Classes begin in August each year.
