Father Leo bringing his 'Grace Before Meals' flavor to MU on Nov. 14|
Misericordia University is presenting a free interactive cooking demonstration and presentation by Father Leo Patalinghug, an internationally renowned conference speaker, author and TV host on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. in the Huntzinger and Alden Trust Rooms 218-219 of Sandy and Marlene Insalaco Hall as part of Inauguration Week activities. A book signing will follow immediately after the event.
Father Leo is the founder and host of “Grace Before Meals (gracebeforemeals.com),’’ which was established as an apostolate to strengthen families and communities around the dinner table. He has appeared on ABC, CBS, PBS and The Food Network, sharing a message of hope and bringing people together one meal at a time. Father Leo is also known for defeating a world-famous chef in the cooking competition show, “Throw Down! With Bobby Flay.’’
“Grace Before Meals’’ is centered on one fundamental concept: the simple act of creating and sharing a meal can strengthen all kinds of relationships. Research has shown that the family that eats and prays together will stay together. The show’s mission is to give families the tools they need to come together at dinner time and be nourished – body, mind and soul. Father Leo’s tools are simple, delicious easy-to-make recipes, ideas for talking together, and prayers to bring God to the table
“The best way to one’s heart is through the stomach,’’ said Father Leo, a priest of the Archdiocese of Baltimore, Md., “so let us serve one another with ‘Grace Before Meals’ and after meals, too.’’
Born in the Philippines and raised in the Baltimore, Md., area, Father Leo’s background as a former martial arts champion and choreographer for an award winning break-dancing group has provided him unique experience and insights that has caught the attention and acclamation of diverse audiences. His monthly food column, “Catholic Culinary Confessions,’’ is published in Baltimore’s The Catholic Review, and he hosts the weekly cooking show, “Savoring Our Faith,’’ on EWTN. Father Leo shares his message across the country and around the world through his website, videos, live presentations, retreats and parish missions by bringing people closer together – one meal at a time.
