The main entrance to the building takes you through a beautiful brass doorway into the main lobby, with its arched ceiling, gothic architecture and marble staircase. This area is a busy hub of activity during the day and evening, when you can often find students, faculty and staff engaged in conversation. Many of the offices current and prospective students need most regularly, such as Admissions, Financial Aid, Student Accounts and the Registrar, can be found on this floor, as well as the offices of the President and Academic Vice President. Also on this floor is the college chapel, which has a regular mass schedule and is a popular wedding site for returning alumni.
The second floor was renovated in 2002. Formerly the college library, this area is now home to classrooms for my major, Speech/Language Pathology, as well as new classrooms for general use. Our speech students operate a working clinic from this area, which allows them to gain invaluable hands-on experience without leaving campus. Our Institutional Advancement offices also reside on the second floor near the Founders Room, a lasting tribute to the college's founders, the Religious Sisters of Mercy. Improvements to Mercy Hall continued with the 2003 completion of the Geraldine Ruth Daley Anderson Bell Tower. Dr. Robert S. Anderson, a former trustee and ongoing benefactor, donated $500,000 to MU for the project. The tower houses the College's new carillon (bell system) and connects all five floors of Mercy Hall with a walkway to the Mary Kintz Bevevino Library. On the third floor you'll find more than a dozen classrooms, most of which are designed to accommodate between 10 and 30 students, which gives you an idea of the size of classes here at CM. Also found on this floor are two state-of-the-art computer labs, which are open from early morning to late evening, as well as some faculty offices and the Alternative Learners’ Project, a nationally-renowned program that helps students with learning disabilities succeed in college.
The fourth floor, in addition to containing four classrooms that provide a beautiful view of campus in all directions, is where the Education department learning lab is housed. Mercy Hall's lower level contains the classrooms and labs for our Medical Imaging program, a fine arts classroom, our Safety Office and offices for our Computer Services, Human Resources and Finance and Administrative Affairs. | |
