NURSING GRADUATES EXCEED NATIONAL AND STATE PASS RATES
FOR RN LICENSING EXAMINATION

Misericordia University nursing program graduates once again have exceeded the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) average pass rates at the state and national levels for first –time test-takers between October 1, 2011 and September 30, 2012.

Misericordia University’s graduates achieved a 98.3% NCLEX pass rate. The average national pass rate year to date for full time students with a baccalaureate degree is 92.07% and the average pass rate in Pennsylvania is 90.79%. According to Dr. Cynthia Mailloux, Professor and Chairperson of the Nursing Department, as of October 2010 the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing requires nursing education programs to maintain a minimum pass rate of 80% for the national licensure examination.

Dr. Mailloux credits the curriculum, students, and the faculty members for the strong pass rates over the past few years. The curriculum, clinical experiences and a state of the art nursing Erwine Lab and Simulation Center provide our students with the experiences they need for successful passing of the licensure examination and transition into professional practice.

Misericordia University’s nursing program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

Misericordia Department of Nursing received the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Innovation in Professional Nursing Education Award for Small Schools at the October 2012 AACN semi-annual meeting in Washington DC. This award recognizes the outstanding work of this program to re-envision traditional models for nursing education and lead programmatic change.
