You can make a difference in the lives of tomorrow by including Misericordia University in your estate plans today.  What a great feeling knowing you have contributed to the future success of Misericordia.

News From The HillChance to Reduce 2012 & 2013 Taxes

Congress is rolling back the clock for 2012 distributions and extending the IRA Charitable Rollover opportunity into 2013. The new tax law that was signed on January 1, 2013 includes possibilities for a 2012 tax deduction and a one year extension of the IRA Charitable Rollover that permits tax-free contributions from traditional and Roth IRAs to qualified tax-exempt organizations—such as Misericordia University.

This giving option – known as a charitable IRA rollover - may prove especially appealing for those who are required to take a minimum distribution from an IRA. The rollover provision provides tax incentives to citizens age 70½ or older to contribute assets from their individual retirement accounts without having to treat the proceeds as taxable income, providing a measure of tax relief.

The following limitations for 2012 & 2013 apply:

  • $100,000 You can contribute up to $100,000 per person/$200,000per couple in 2012 and up to another $100,000 per person/$200,000
    per couple in 2013.
  • 70 1/2  This is the minimum age you are required to be at the time
    of the gift.
  • IRA to MU Unless this is a conversion of  a December 2012 IRA
distribution, donors must contribute directly to MU through their
IRA administrator. However, please let us know that you have
requested the transfer so we can look for it to arrive.
