The Misericordia University Student Government Association (SGA) honored retiring president Michael A. MacDowell and first lady Tina MacDowell as part of the kick-off to Springfest Weekend events on campus.

SGA president Catie Becker of Shickshinny, Pa., presented President MacDowell with a volleyball trophy recognizing his 15 years of leadership and participation in the President’s Volleyball Tournament, which has been considered one of the highlights of Homecoming Weekend. The tongue-in-cheek trophy also recognized his team’s record of 0-15 against teams of students in the annual tournament.

SGA members also presented Dr. MacDowell with a 2013 Springfest Weekend shirt signed by many of the students.

Dr. and Mrs. MacDowell also served as cheerleaders for the Springfest Wing Eating Contest held in the John and Mary Metz Dining Hall. Jeffrey Passetti, assistant director of Campus Ministry, earned the winner’s title downing 10 wings in a two-minute period.
