High school students explore careers in occupational therapy|
Misericordia University provided rising high school seniors the unique opportunity to gain extensive hands-on experience in an exciting health care specialty field at the annual Occupational Therapy Career Exploration Camp in June.
The Career Exploration Camps at Misericordia University are a popular destination for students who want to explore both college campus life and a potential career. Misericordia University offers nine popular academic camps every June in biology, business, chemistry-biochemistry, communications and media, English literature, nursing, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology and teacher education.
The annual three-day, two-night Occupational Therapy Career Exploration Camp gives students an opportunity to learn about the occupational therapy profession, meet faculty and students in the OT department and tour clinical sites in northeastern Pennsylvania where occupational therapists practice. Community site visits allowed students to observe the wide range of services offered by OT therapists, including inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services, hospital treatments and pediatric services.
Through the years, the camp has been very popular with high school students who wish to explore a possible career in this specialized health care field. Students have routinely stated in exit surveys that the camp provided them the information and tools they needed to make an educated decision on future careers.
